Account administrator(s) can view the usage statistics for the products subscribed to under their account.
The usage statistics may be viewed online, saved to a file, or emailed to the Account Administrator.
Administrators may access the usage statistics tool through the World Book My Account web site. Access to My Account should only be given to an Account Administrator. The address for My Account is:
//www.worldbookonline.com/myaccount
The Account Administrator will need to enter the email and password access their account. This login information is supplied in an initial email from World Book to the Account Administrator.
Any report file can be saved, for emailing or other use, by selecting the Save option from the Tool Box at the top of each Usage Reports page or by using the Save-as option under the web browser's File menu.
Usage Statistics displayed in My Account meet or exceed Level 1 compliance for Project Counter.
The My Account feature is available only for World Book Account Administrators. Accounts are organized as a Main Account (parent) and Sub Accounts (child). This hierarchy allows for aggregate reporting as well as single institution reporting.
Access to usage reports is role-based. Administrators may view usage reports at the account level of their institution and for sub accounts below their institution.
Administrators of sub accounts may not view reports for accounts above their institution. They also may not view reports for other institutions within the Main Account.
The first table displayed at the usage reports page is the Main Account View, which covers aggregate login statistics for all products subscribed to the main account.
The statistics are organized in a table showing usage by month and a total for each column. The default display covers 12 months, with a 13th month displayed for reference, but is not included in the column totals.
The statistics may be further detailed as In-House usage, which covers usage within the school or library, and Remote usage, which covers usage from outside the institution.
Select Sub Account View to compile usage by sub account. This is especially useful for large accounts with many sub accounts.
After selecting Sub Account View, you will be taken to a page that asks you to select sub accounts and how you'd like the usage to be displayed. Select All Sub Accounts View to view all available sub accounts. Select Usage Total of Selected Sub Accounts to view an overall total of sub account usage. Select Sub Account(s) allows you to select specific sub accounts you want to view. Itemize Usage by Sub Account displays the usage by sub account for each sub account, rather than the overall total. Users can select Select All or De-Select All. This is useful for accounts with hundreds of sub accounts and want to select most or all of them.
Advanced Reports allow the account administrator to compile more specified usage data.
Select options under Usage Period to select a timeframe of 3, 6, or 12 months, or select a date range. Select Usage Type to compile by In-House usage, Remote usage, or both. Select the Products you'd like to compile usage for. Note: Only products the account subscribes to will be listed.
Select the usage types you'd like to compile. Then select whether you'd like to compile usage for only the Main Account or for Sub Accounts. See the Sub Account View See the Sub Account View section of this page for instructions on selecting sub accounts.
Please Note: It may take a few minutes for usage to compile depending on the account size, timeframe, sub accounts, and the amount of products. If it is taking longer than a few minutes to compile, please contact customer service or your local sales representative for assistance. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Multi-Level Reports compile usage by month, sub account, and product for the past year. This report provides users with detailed overview of product usage by the main account and by each sub account.
Select Multi-level Report and enter the email address that you would like the report sent to. Then select a date range for the report. When you click on the send button, the report will be emailed to you as a CSV file.
Please Note: It may take a few minutes for usage to compile depending on the accounts size and number of products. If it is taking longer than a few minutes to compile and download, or if you receive a timeout error, please contact customer service or your local sales representative for assistance. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Day Wise Usage allows accounts to total usage at the daily or weekly level. Users can put in a timeframe from a single to day to up to two months to get a more detailed perspective of usage. Want to know how many users accessed World Book over a holiday weekend or holiday break? This is the feature for you!
1. Select a Start Date and End Date for the date range you would like to compile.
Please Note: Selecting a date range that exceeds two months may cause a time out error. This feature is tailored to compile day-to-day usage and is best utilized for timeframes of a few days to a few weeks. If you would like to compile a date range of longer than two months, please use the Sub Account View, Advanced Reports, or Multi-Level Report features.
2. Select View by Access Type to compile day-to-day usage by In-House, Remote, or both.
3. Select View by Product to compile day-to-day usage by product.
Please Note: You cannot choose an Access Type and Product Type at the same time. Please choose one or the other for using this feature. Once you choose a type from one of the two dropdowns, the other dropdown will be unselectable.
4. Select the Submit button when you are ready for the usage to compile. The usage will display in a single row below the submit button when compilation is complete.
5. Select the Save As button to download the displayed usage as a CSV file.
Each product on the account has a separate table of usage which can be detailed by four distinct groups of statistics;
The usage by product can also display figures as In-House usage, which covers usage within the school or library, and Remote usage, which covers usage from outside of the institution.
When a user logs onto a World Book product, a new session is created for that user. Each session continues until a user closes the browser or there is inactivity for more than 15 minutes.
A product session is registered when a user first accesses a World Book product. Each product will register a session, if it has been accessed by a user.
This figure reflects the views registered for accessing items in the following content types directly from search results.
Content views for World Book Advanced include all of the content types listed above in Student, as well as some content that is unique to Advanced, including:
The content views for other World Book products include the content pages for articles, images videos and sounds, as well as content types that are unique to that product.
The search statistic counts each search results page that a user generates on the site, either by entering a search term or clicking on next page links. Basic search and the advanced search queries are counted in the statistics.
This table shows estimates of the number of server hits for each product subscribed under the account. A hit is defined as an individual element on a page and the html page itself. Javascript and Stylesheet files are not included as hits.
These are estimates of the number of server hits generated by the account. The estimates are calculated by multiplying the average number of hits per page in each product by the number of views of that product. The total number of hits for all products subscribed to the account is then aggregated and displayed by month. As with all other statistics, Estimated Hits is updated at least once per day.
Any element on a webpage including: icons, tables, buttons, images, photographs, illustrations, videos, audios, 360 degree views, maps, frames, as well as the page itself. Each of these items results from a hit on the web server, supplying a separate file.
This is the average number of hits on the web server to supply a page. It is calculated by counting all elements on each webpage for each product. An average number is then calculated for each product. This average is used in the Estimated Hits calculation.
The hits are estimated, as there is a possibility that the user is browser settings or the local institution's servers may be caching files, which would undercount usage. From the World Book web servers, there is no way to ascertain the customer's settings for caching files.
